What do you see? Quad Cities Photographer— Love Your Legacy

January 4, 2018

What do you see when you look at these images? A few random people in some old frames? Memories of looking through old photo albums with Grandma and Grandpa? A bygone era?

I, too, see all of these things. But I see so much more.

I see the wedding picture of my children’s great-great-grandparents.

I see two generations of my husband’s family that few living ever had the chance to meet.

I see the faces of my husband’s family lineage and the origins of the man that I love.

And this picture–

Here I see my dad’s childhood. He and his two older siblings and their mother, who passed not even a decade later.

This picture is one of the few I have ever seen of my grandmother and one of a handful documenting my father’s youth and his mother’s presence in in his young life.

Someday, when Facebook has fallen by the wayside, our iPhones are long forgotten, and USBs are a thing of the past, prints such as these will be all that remains of our legacy. These will be the items that our kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and beyond examine to find evidence of the family cleft chin or furrowed brow. The images that are hung on walls or framed for future generations to admire. These images will inspire questions and discussions and be a lasting legacy of this time and our lives.

Printing family photographs is a tangible means of creating your legacy. How do you want to be remembered? Do you want future generations to see the fun you had as a family? How much love you shared with your spouse? The love between siblings or the love of a parent? All of these things are captured in photography, and they shape how you will be remembered.
